As the world shrinks, the demand for decision-makers versed in the culture and language of other countries grows. To fill this need, the Penn State Board of Trustees in 2001 approved creation of an International Business degree program at Penn State Erie.
International Business is a dual-degree program. The International Business curriculum emphasizes the knowledge and the skills required to accomplish organizational objectives while coordinating human, material, information, and financial resources across national boundaries. A second School of Business major adds depth of business knowledge (you can choose Accounting, Business Economics, Economics, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, or Marketing). With careful planning, the program can be completed in four years.
A required study abroad component is distinct to the International Business major. Penn State offers 130 study programs in forty-two countries-from Aberystwyth, Wales to Wellington, New Zealand-through a variety of organizations. Programs vary in length from spring break to a full year abroad. An international programs adviser is available to help students make the selection that best meets their educational needs.
This past summer, a study abroad opportunity to China was available. Dr. Kenneth Louie was the Instructor. The Study Abroad flyer tells you about what students learned and estimated costs. The Study Abroad brochure gives you a course overview, deadlines, and how this course will increase your understanding of China and its impact on the world and its economy.

Welcome to Penn State Altoona and thank you for your interest in the associate degree in business. We have exciting opportunities for you in our program. You will work with highly qualified faculty in business, law, management, marketing, and information systems. An advantage of the associate degree in business is that it provides you with an academic credential at the end of two years as a full-time student or the approved 60 credits at your own pace as a part-time student. This is a great starting point to improve your career opportunities either in a new position or in your current job.
Upon completion of the associate degree in business, you may also choose to proceed seamlessly to the bachelor of science in business here at Altoona or to selected other majors in the Penn State system. You will work with an experienced faculty member as your academic advisor.
You will have the opportunity to participate in an elective business internship as part of your curriculum. Internships provide valuable experience before graduation and a great resume item. Some of our past students have had very interesting internships with local sports organizations, local retailers, manufacturing organizations, and non-profit organizations. Both students and host companies have been very pleased with this experience.
You may want to participate in the Society of Business club and meet local entrepreneurs or participate in the Students in Free Enterprise competition.

Each Business Administration major completes all degree requirements including core curriculum requirements, requirements for the Business Administration major and requirements for a specialization in business and/or a minor in another academic discipline and/or course work customized to personal preference. Business Administration major requirements aim to provide breadth of knowledge in the discipline of business and its context, as well as learning activities that promote the integration of business knowledge. The specializations provide in-depth study in an area of business. A minor in another academic discipline and the coursework customized to personal preference provide students with the opportunity to explore areas of learning outside of the business discipline for the purpose of complementing the knowledge acquired in the Business Administration major requirements. All candidates for the B.S. should work closely with their academic advisors to assure that their programs of study have met the established guidelines for the degrees.
