International Securities Investment and Banking Undergraduate at University Of Reading

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

The BSc International Securities, Investment and Banking is an innovative honours degree programme for students who want to work in the global financial markets. It combines two key disciplines: applied finance theory and industry specific training. Within our purpose-designed £3 million building, we have two dealing rooms with 70 Reuters, Bridge Telerate and Bloomberg terminals. We also have a separate PC room with more than 25 computers. These facilities are only available to ICMA Centre students.

Career Prospects:

Our dedicated Career Development Unit is available to help you find an internship in an investment bank during the summer vacation. Students have previously worked for, and received job offers at the end of the internships (subject to them graduating!) from companies such as Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch.

Progressional Accreditation:
As part of the degree, we offer you additional teaching (optional) for an industry-recognised licence offered by the major regulatory body in the UK (FSA).

Sponsorship & Scholarship Opportunities:
Stephen Cooke Memorial Fund
A well-known figure in the City of London, Stephen Cooke, died tragically in 1998. A fund was created in his memory to carry on the good work in the field of education for which Stephen had become known. Annual cash awards are given to a number of Year 1 and 2 students and are made on the basis of academic results and a subsequent presentation. The Securities Institute administers the fund and hosts the awards ceremony

Industry links:
Our programme is supported by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA), which is based in Zurich, Switzerland. ICMA serves as the market regulator and trade association for more than 450 banks and securities houses worldwide. Through ICMA, we have links to many of these firms and you will benefit from recruitment visits from many investment banks based in the City of London and also from recruitment consultancies.

Capital Investment

In 2005, the new Board of ICMA agreed a further donation of £5million to expand and enhance the centre. It is expected that the new building will open for use by mid 2008.

Your Choice of Programme:
Teaching is through lectures, small group tutorials and practical work. Sessions within our dealing rooms begin at the end of your second year and continue right through your final year. You are assessed by a combination of unseen examinations and course work.
