International Business Major at Pennsylvania State University Altoona

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

As the world shrinks, the demand for decision-makers versed in the culture and language of other countries grows. To fill this need, the Penn State Board of Trustees in 2001 approved creation of an International Business degree program at Penn State Erie.

International Business is a dual-degree program. The International Business curriculum emphasizes the knowledge and the skills required to accomplish organizational objectives while coordinating human, material, information, and financial resources across national boundaries. A second School of Business major adds depth of business knowledge (you can choose Accounting, Business Economics, Economics, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, or Marketing). With careful planning, the program can be completed in four years.

A required study abroad component is distinct to the International Business major. Penn State offers 130 study programs in forty-two countries-from Aberystwyth, Wales to Wellington, New Zealand-through a variety of organizations. Programs vary in length from spring break to a full year abroad. An international programs adviser is available to help students make the selection that best meets their educational needs.

This past summer, a study abroad opportunity to China was available. Dr. Kenneth Louie was the Instructor. The Study Abroad flyer tells you about what students learned and estimated costs. The Study Abroad brochure gives you a course overview, deadlines, and how this course will increase your understanding of China and its impact on the world and its economy.

Master of Business Administration at Lebanese American University

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Since 1981, LAU has prepared men and women for key roles in managerial and professional positions in business and public organizations. In a brief span the School of Business has grown rapidly to become the largest English-language program of its kind in the Middle East by encouraging scientific appreciation of the society in which managers act, with creativity and high moral purposes, and, promoting leadership in the quest for economic and social development.

In offering a Master in Business Administration, LAU draws on substantial and growing experience in undergraduate business education to provide a significant opportunity for advanced education to seekers of a business career.

The university also recognizes that persons with undergraduate degrees in fields other than business (e.g. engineering, agriculture, liberal arts, etc.) may pursue a business education, so the curriculum has been adapted to meet their needs. B.A. International Business at Chatham College

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

In our technological society a successful administrator, entrepreneur, or researcher is one who can understand the impact of change and effectively deal with it. The opinion of a growing number of professionals is that students graduating from programs emphasizing the liberal arts are better prepared to understand and manage change than others more narrowly educated. It is the purpose of Chatham’s department of business to complement the student’s liberal arts training by providing her with the fundamental tools necessary to comprehend the technical as well as the human environment in which we work.

The program is designed to provide a general foundation, as well as a concentration, in an area of the student’s choosing. The student’s first step is to take courses in economics, accounting, management theory, and statistics. Once these courses are completed, she decides on a concentration in accounting, management, international business, business economics, or marketing. After this decision, she takes a second set of courses especially designed to introduce her to more advanced topics in those areas. The final stage is to investigate in greater depth some aspect of her interest through the senior tutorial.

Management, accounting, business economics, and marketing are fields of study that can enhance a student’s education in other areas. Students with broader interests can combine these majors with a discipline outside the program in an interdisciplinary major.

Although the courses are not part of the major requirements, a year of calculus should be considered a prerequisite for those students going on to graduate school.
