Program overview

Graduates of the eight-course Graduate Diploma in International Business have undertaken skill-focused programs of study and practical work to develop their professional understanding and problem-solving abilities. The Graduate Diploma builds on the four-course Graduate Certificate in International Business and articulates into the Master of International Business.
Admission requirements

An undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised higher education institution is the minimum requirement for entering the Graduate Diploma of International Business program. No work experience is required.

Applications are also invited from candidates who do not have an undergraduate degree. These applications will receive special consideration from the Dean of Business, who has the discretion to waive the educational requirement if it is considered the candidate is likely to be successful at postgraduate study and would benefit from the program.

Applicants whose first language is other than English must demonstrate an appropriate level of English proficiency by providing evidence of one of the required qualifications.

Program Description

The International Relations (IR) degree is designed to prepare students for employment in international organizations, governmental and charitable agencies in the international arena, business and financial institutions with overseas interests, or to provide a broad liberal arts education.
With the advice and consent of an International Relations advisor, each International Relations major will build an emphasis in one of the following areas (from the approved course lists):
Global Policy Issues
International Norms and Behavior
International Political Economy
War, Peace, and Conflict Resolution
A regional emphasis in one area:

Admission Requirements

Admission to Major is granted by the department.
University admission requirements are a minimum of 32 earned semester credit hours.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C) is required.
Other Requirements

To prepare a program of study suitable to the needs and interests of the individual student, a person majoring in international relations is required to consult with an advisor. The student’s individualized program will be on file with the Political Science Department and the awarding of a degree will depend upon fulfillment of the program.

Program Description

It is the objective of the department to advance the understanding and practice of disciplines of marketing and international business. The International Business program prepares students to meet the challenges of the global economy. Most of the students are employed in the finance, marketing, transportation and international divisions of the small- to mid-size corporations.
Admission Requirements

Grade Point Average: minimum 2.7
Credits and Courses: 33 completed credits of the 44 general education requirements; completion of the following courses: ISYS 101 (ISYS 110 for MIS majors), MATH 130 (MATH 180 for MIS majors), ACCT 200, BLAW 200, MGMT 200, Second Year Experience 201, ECON 201, ECON 202, ECON 207, and ACCT 210.
Other Requirements

Deadlines for application are: October 1 for Spring Semester and March 1 for Fall Semester.
Academic Advising: Students will initially receive their advising from the professional advisors in the College of Business Advising Center. When a student applies to the College of Business, he/she will be assigned a faculty advisor in the major area of study. Questions regarding the assignment of advisors can be answered in the College of Business Advising Center, 151 Morris Hall, 389-2963.
Information Technology Initiative: Students with a major or minor in the College of Business, as well as students taking Business courses at 200-level and above, are required to purchase a notebook computer with a standard set of applications from the Campus Computer Store at Minnesota State Mankato.
