The Bachelor of Arts in International and Global Studies is a 42-45-hour major offering students an interdisciplinary program that examines the world from multiple perspectives and enables them to compete successfully in the international arena. Its interdisciplinary curriculum links history, sociology, geography, non-western literature, intercultural communications, management, economics, and natural science. Students would engage in projects that would advance humanity around the world.

The International Business major is an interdisciplinary program that combines a professional discipline with a solid foundation in the liberal arts and sciences to prepare students for a career in the global marketplace.

Students pursuing the international business major will:
Develop an entrepreneurial perspective and a thorough understanding of the functional areas of business
Develop the skills needed by international business professionals:Â oral and written communication, social, technological, analytical, critical thinking and cultural competency.
Acquire knowledge of the global environment and the economic, demographic, social, political and psychological forces that shape the domestic and international marketplace.
Develop a global perspective and the cultural competency and sensitivity needed to successfully interact with individuals with different backgrounds and perspectives.
Develop the ability to understand and evaluate the ethical and moral issues related to doing business in a global business environment.

International Relations Degree at William Jewell College

The international relations major, a part of the political science department, is an interdisciplinary program of study. IR is designed to give students a global perspective of economic, political and social relationships. Your coursework includes political science, economics, history, religion and a variety of other humanities.

As an IR major, you will develop an understanding of the history of an important region outside the United States. You will develop a critical understanding of the parameters of world politics, including analyzing and critiquing the major institutions of world politics. You will also learn to describe and analyze international economic institutions and apply basic concepts of international economics.

Overseas study at one of Jewell’s twenty-two overseas study programs is required. Recent IR majors studied at Oxford, the Sorbonne, Vienna, Austria, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica, Israel/Palestine and Spain. You are also required to have at least three semesters of a single foreign language (or proficiency at that level).

Several students each year secure paid internships on Capitol Hill. Others have interned in national, state and local campaigns, at the embassies of the Kingdom of Jordan and the Czech Republic and in the World Affairs Institute. Students also obtained mentorships in the Kansas City metro area at the FBI, the Federal Reserve and the Jackson and Platte County Prosecutor’s Offices, among other places.

Graduates have won admission in prestigious graduate and professional programs. In the last five years, students have been accepted at: USC Law (the alum graduated 1st in his class!); Washington University Law; Georgetown University Law; and law programs at KU, MU and UMKC. In graduate programs: UVA Ph.D. in International Relations; Syracuse University M.A. in International Relations; George Washington M.A. in International Relations; Baylor University M.A. in International Relations; KU Master’s in Public Administration; Boston University M.A. in Asian Studies.

Graduates have also recently begun positions at: Federal Reserve; Capitol Hill (4 in the last 5 years); George K. Baum; Andersen Consulting; Shook, Hardy & Bacon (legal analysis). In the U.S. military, alumni now serve in Army Intelligence (Korea); Naval Intelligence (Mediterranean); Marine Corps Logistics.

The Master of Arts in International Relations is an interdisciplinary program that integrates the study of international relations, international economics, history, political science, cultural anthropology, criminal justice, and international business. This cross-disciplinary approach is best suited to analyze and understand global events and human development in the post-Cold War era.; St. Mary’s Graduate School offeres three program options: on-campus, online, and off-campus (Ft. Hood, Killeen, TX).

The on-campus program offers a Master of Arts degree in International Relations with a concentration in one of five possible areas: Inter-American Studies, International Conflict Resolution, International Criminal Justice and Crime Control, International Development Studies, and Security Policy. The online and off-campus programs offer a Master of Arts degree in International Relations with a concentration in Security Policy. All programs require the completion of 36 credit hours of coursework during which students gain a breadth of knowledge concerning the behavior of states and non-state actors in the international arena, as well as a depth of knowledge in their focus areas. The degree is designed to permit students to integrate internships and/or study abroad opportunities into the 36-hour curriculum.

International Relations
The International Relations program is an interdisciplinary program designed for students preparing for graduate work or careers with an international focus, whether in government, business, the professions, such as law, teaching, journalism, or in other areas, such as private foundations or international organizations.

All majors take a group of courses in government and economics in common. In addition to these courses, students in the international relations major take elective courses with a particular thematic or geographic focus. The Chair of the International Relations Committee will advise students on substitute and transfer courses.

The Certificate in International Business is an opportunity to combine a business or liberal arts and sciences major with electives focused on international issues in order to develop an understanding of the complexities of international business. Foreign language majors often find that international business course work adds an interesting dimension to their studies. Students may discover that gaining appreciation of other cultures and studying an additional language provides opportunities in the global marketplace.

Course Work
The program is concentrated in the following four areas: international business, international relations and institutions, foreign language, and area studies. You’ll take Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Macroeconomics, plus three other international business courses, two international relations and institutions courses, a foreign language sequence, and 6 semester hours of area studies from the geographic area of the language you selected to study.

This interdisciplinary program draws on the strengths of more than 80 departments in the Colleges of Business and Liberal Arts and Sciences, so you’ll have dozens of courses you can use to tailor your certificate program. Study abroad programs fit well with the certificate. Many of the classes that satisfy the requirements also may apply to General Education Program credit and to your major or minor.

Today’s world is interconnected as never before due to technological advances, faster means of travel, international business agreement, and political treaties. Morehead State University offers an interdisciplinary minor in International Studies in order to prepare graduates to function effectively in the 21st century. As more and more jobs require employees to interact with citizens of other nations, knowledge of other countries and cultures provides MSU graduates with skills to succeed in the “real world.”

Program Description
The minor in International Studies (IST) is an interdisciplinary program, which allows each student to develop a program of study that meets his/her personal needs. The IST minor combines the classroom learning with practical application of international concepts abroad. Students selecting this minor will work with the Associate Dean of International Education to map out a program of study.

Program Requirements
A minimum grade of a “C” is required in all courses that are used to satisfy minor requirements. Courses in the minor may not count towards a student’s major.

The International and Global Studies major is an interdisciplinary program that consists of a minimum of 36 credits, including a Study Abroad course. Requirements for this major include courses in political science, philosophy, history, international or global literature, and a senior capstone which focuses in an international issue addressed from three different perspectives. Electives taken from at least three disciplines provide the students a solid education in international and global issues.
