Programme Structure in Brief
International Master’s Degree Programme in International Business provides students with a strong core of subjects, an interesting range of option choices, and a Master’s thesis project that encourages specialisation in a theme of particular interest to the student. The studies required for Master’s degree consist of initial studies (25 ECTS), advanced level studies (25 ECTS), methodology studies (10 ECTS), additional studies (30 ECTS), and the Master’s thesis (30 ECTS). More detailed information about the programme structure and course descriptions can be found under the section Studies.
Initial studies (25 ECTS) provide students the base for understanding and analysing the strategic level decisions and operations of international and multinational firms. Students are introduced to the basic concepts and terminology of international business and management of international operations, the special characteristics of the international operation environment and internationalisation processes, and their implications for different business functions.
Advanced level studies (25 ECTS) deepen the knowledge of more specific areas of international human resource management, knowledge transfer, international marketing management, international business networks, as well as the challenges of strategic alliances, joint ventures, and mergers in international business. They increase the students’ capabilities to make both strategic and operational level decisions in international context, work in international positions, and take on managerial responsibilities for international operations. In addition, the programme offers good basics for working in internationally-oriented governmental organisations and in research- and teaching-related positions.
Methodology studies (10 ECTS) introduce students to the basics of both qualitative and quantitative research methods and their suitability for different purposes, information sources and search methods, statistical methods, and the computer programs available for both a qualitative and quantitative approach.
