Career in International Business at Loyola University of Chicago

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Because a quarter of the United States’ gross national product results from international trade, companies are increasingly seeking business graduates who understand how differences in language, economics, politics, cultural structures, attitudes toward work and social interaction in the workplace affect business globally.

Business graduates who can speak a foreign language, have knowledge of international issues affecting business and have spent time in a foreign country will be increasingly sought out by employers for positions in the U.S. and abroad.

International business majors also learn business foundations for careers in human resources, sales and marketing, management, economics and finance. International business graduates may seek careers in the U.S. government, multinational corporations, foreign banks, international investments, import/export firms, international law firms, global non-profit organizations and world missions.

The Loyola international business major also is solid preparation for graduate study in business. The Chicago metropolitan area is a center of global commerce, including more than 300 U.S. and 40 foreign bank branches, some of the country’s largest venture capital firms, the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board Options Exchange, 107 corporate headquarters (second only to New York) and 30 Fortune 500 companies. The city also is North America’s largest convention center and the third-largest high-tech center in the U.S.

International Relations at The College of Wooster Ohio

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

How will economic globalization, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, the emergence of the U.S. as the world’s sole superpower, or the growth of the European Union shape the future? The field of international relations seeks to answer those questions by exploring the behavior of governments, sub-national groups seeking independence or autonomy, international institutions like the United Nations, multinational corporations, and non-governmental organizations like Amnesty International.

International relations majors investigate the rich complexity of relationships — political, economic, historical, geographic, and cultural — among these actors, and how those relationships shape the world in which we live.

What Is International Business?

International business focuses on the challenges of managing businesses in diverse legal, political, economic, and cultural environments.
Why Study International Business?
Economies of countries are becoming more and more interdependent
Companies now have to deal, either voluntarily or involuntarily, with international issues
Successful businesses are aware of events, cultures, and regulations outside their own

In light of this, it is crucial that managers have a global perspective on business and a good understanding of the information technology infrastructure needed to conduct business on an international scale.

Our International Business Major Allows You To:
Assess the causes and consequences of globalization
Appreciate the impact of political stability and instability in the world on business decisions
